Travel arrangements

One of the main reasons that Pelion remains unspoilt is that it is slightly off the beaten track. Although there are a few direct flights into the airport at Volos, space is limited on these and most visitors to Pelion travel here via Thessaloniki. The downside is that it takes a little longer to get here; the upside is that this discourages the hordes, and when you get here you will find peace and tranquility, and empty beaches (and cheap tavernas).

In fact the journey is simple and straightforward. There are a number of car hire firms servicing the airports in Greece (try www.carhire300.com to get an online price). The drive from Thessaloniki to the property is quick and easy, straight down the motorway to Volos (about 2 hours) and then 30 kilometres down into Pelion.

If you wish, we can organise minibus pickup and transfer direct to the property from any airport (Thessaloniki, Volos or Athens).

Flights from the UK

As mentioned above, for large parties (more than 6 people) the best option is to fly to Thessaloniki. The cheapest flights from the UK are with Easyjet from Gatwick (www.easyjet.com) or Ryanair from Stansted (www.ryanair.com). For early bookings, you should also try British Airways (www.britishairways.com).

Smaller parties may be able to get space on the Monarch weekly flights to Volos from Gatwick (www.monarch.co.uk).

Some visitors to Pelion like to fly into Skiathos and take the water-taxi across to Pelion (about 15 minutes) – we will then arrange pickup and transfer direct to Dolphins Leap. We will be happy to advise on costs etc if this is of interest.

Flights from other countries

As with travel from the UK the best option for large parties is to fly into Thessaloniki airport using one of the many airlines flying to this destination.

There are also a number of direct flights into Volos airport from the following European airports:

Berlin (Air Berlin www.airberlin.com)
Brussels (Ryanair www.ryanair.com).
Dusseldorf (Air Berlin www.airberlin.com)
Frankfurt (Ryanair www.ryanair.com).
Hamburg (Air Berlin www.airberlin.com)
Milan (Ryanair www.ryanair.com).
Nuremberg (Air Berlin www.airberlin.com)
Vienna (Lauda Air www.laudaair.com)
